THE SIX SECRETS OF CHANGE: What the Best Leaders Do to Help Their Organizations Survive and Thrive. The discussion will provide participants an opportunity to explore key factors that allow organizations to sustain meaningful change with lessons that are insightful, actionable, and concisely communicable. These lessons are “secrets” not because there is a conspiracy to hide them from public view, but because they are often difficult to grasp in their deep meaning and challenging to appreciate and act on in combination. Fullan makes these so-called secrets accessible and useful and offers illustrative examples form a variety of businesses, health organizations and public education systems.

The Instructional Practice Inventory (IPI) provides observational data about the nature of teaching practices across the school. A trained observer can systematically observe classes throughout the school, obtaining more than 100 observations of teaching practice during a typical school day and create a profile of the practices for the staff. The six categorizations of teaching practices are: active learning/active teaching, teacher-led conversation, teacher-led instruction, student seatwork/teacher engaged, student seatwork/teacher disengaged, and total disengagement. Class is limited to 20 attendees per session so sign-up early!

This administrator's academy will be taught in the Illinois Statehouse when the legislature is in session.  A Senator and a Representative will be scheduled to speak to participants about the legislative process in a hearing room in the Capitol.  Presentations by Senate and House Staffers will be scheduled, as well as, a presentation by a staff member from the Governor's office.  Participants will also have the opportunity to attend legislative hearings.  As a result of taking this workshop, participants will understand and be able to work effectively with legislators and their staff, apply rules for giving testimony at legislative hearings, develop working relationships with the Legislative Reference Bureau and the Legislative Information System, and work with the Joint Committee on Administrative Rules.
